home -> the work -> "ges-tex" series

"ges tex" series continues my focus on intuitive marks and the universality of man’s desire to make marks, a human gesture. Additionally, these works address concerns regarding the gradual loss of tactile awareness in today’s technological and simulated society. Man’s primitive need to touch and feel texture. Both the paintings and the sculptures invite the viewer to experience the fluid gushiness of the paint, the rough bumpiness of the surface, the hard smoothness of the polished aluminum and the sometimes quiet, but oftentimes spirited brush stroke.

During the process of painting, there is always a sense of struggle, a loud argumentative conversation between myself and my work. A wrangling of images, but not intent. Both the painting and I agree that the work has its own life, emergent bit by bit. Joyful in its independence.

These gestural...textural works reflect my crusade to continue to produce works which shout, "Touch me!" "Don’t forget how it feels!" "Ride with me!" or melodically whisper "Sing along."
